Wow. We really are a bit crazy here in California. I know I was born and raised here, but it really took moving a way for five years to truly see just how wacky is California.
One legislator wants to ban spanking children. I love that the sponsor is not a parent, but has two cats and the vet says she shouldn’t hit them. Ok, thanks for your thoughts on parenting, you crazy cat lady. Are we going to legislate how many minutes a night you have to read to your child? How about how many times a week you take them to the park? How many pushes on the swings?
Another person wants to make it illegal to pass a bike unless there is a three-foot gap between the car and the bike. Um, on any two-lane road – which is where you are going to find the bikes – you’re going to ask the car to cross over the double yellow line into oncoming traffic. Crossing the double yellow line is illegal. Of course, the proposed law will allow cars to cross the double yellow to pass a bike, but it doesn’t clear the way of oncoming traffic. And let’s just gloss over the fact that the bikes are on roads paid for by gasoline taxes. The gasoline used by cars. Cars pay for the road, yet we’ll have to drive five miles an hour because someone can’t deem and, apparently, aren’t legally responsible to use the bike lane properly.
This morning I logged in to the local paper’s website and someone is now proposing a ban on standard light bulbs. Light bulbs, people. They wants us all to use those horrible migraine producing florescent twirly things. I’m afraid they’ll pass this and then ban migraine medicine.

Couldn’t you just use the medicinal marijuana for the migraines?
