There are diapers in our house. Wee little tiny ones. And they are bigger than the ones that I hope the pine nut will wear in the beginning. I knew babies came with hats, but who knew they were so wee. Now before you think we’ve jumped a gun, we had Christmas (and Natalie’s birthday) with David’s brother and sister in law and their family. While everything was wonderful, and Carrie totally read my mind about our Christmas stockings, the funniest gift of the day was the tool belt they gave David. Instead of being loaded with “regular” tools, it was loaded with a baby bottle, diapers, wipes, binkies, and a flashlight! Everything he needs for the middle of the night feedings!! Very funny!
As I said, Carrie read my mind in terms of our Christmas stockings. As I pulled out our stockings this year I had more than a few tears because my grandparents are gone and the stocking I’ve had my entire life was made by my Gramma. It’s made of felt and it surely isn’t going to last forever. David’s stocking is wool and was knit by his Grandma before I was even born. It’s definitely showing more than a little wear, and like mine, it’s near and dear to us. This year Carrie made David and I new stockings. Her rationale was that our olds ones were too small to really pack in stuff. Whatever the reason I’m thrilled to have Carrie’s handiwork hanging from our mantle. And she started a new heirloom tradition with us by making the pine nut a stocking too. Our first baby stuff. It’s starting to feel real.
Last night the UPS guy showed up at 8:00 and dropped off a book from My Jessika. “Don’t Name Your Baby: What’s Wrong with Every Name in the Book” Oh my goodness did we have fun with it!! The boy’s name we’re considering isn’t in there – Hurrah! However, the girl’s name is. So we’ll see.
Today is my last day in the office and I’m tickled pink!! I have some canvases that I need to finish and I love that I will have the time. I hope to have a picture today. Cross your fingers!

That toolbelt idea is a scream. I may have to steal that one!
