Last weekend I went to Denver to help My Jessika and her family move in to their beautiful new home. As only I can, I tripped over my feet, fell off the curb and ended up in heap in the street. An hour in the emergency room at midnight and I’m sent home with some crutches and a lovely prescription for percocet. Did I mention this was the night before the moving van arrived. Nice, huh?

Derek and Jessika were absolutely wonderful about it. I had come out to help and ended up needing help. Seriously. I left diet coke cans all over their house - have you ever tried to carry a diet coke while using crutches? - and they never complained at all.

And how amazing is David? I came home last night and the house is clean. Really clean. And there were drugs and extra pillows waiting on our bed. With clean sheets. I really love him. Even if he didn’t put clean sheets on the bed.

Aside from busting up my foot, I enjoyed my trip to Denver. Jessika’s girls continue to be adorable and their language skills are amazing! They are like blue-eyed, red-headed sponges!! And they can totally play me. Especially Ella. She knows that all she has to do is say my name with a smile on her face and I’m wrapped around her little finger. And when she says “Shell magic!” Yes, well. I have no words. The crutches frightened Claire a bit, so I’ll work on her next time.

The only good thing that came from my spectacular fall on Sunday night is the percocet. It puts me in my happy place. And an added plus is that it completely takes away my appetitive. Everything sounds good, but three bites into anything and I’m just not in a food place anymore. And the workout that is hauling my ass around on crutches? This has got to be good for something! For now I will take advantage of its sedative effects and I shall go nap until David comes home to drive me to the doctor.

  1. Were the drugs waiting on your pillow, like hotel mints? Now that’s turn-down service!

    Feel better.

  2. Sorry about your spill. Yay for the percs, though. Seems they are required for Shipley houseguests. I was all hopped up on them in March, a few months before the surgery…

Maybe you can decorate your crutches and make them pretty-pretty! Wait, maybe already have :)
