This weekend we did Napa and Sonoma counties. Although, as David doesn’t drink - and really, who wants to wine taste alone, we did independent bookstores. Many, many books were purchased, but not a single bookstore t-shirt. We ate amazing food: John Ash & Co on Saturday night. The Village Inn (and lobster!) on Sunday night. Slept in some wonderful inns. All in all, it was a wonderful long weekend. Just no t-shirts.

On our trek north we stopped in Mill Valley to visit Studio Knit. Oy. Such a beautiful store. Such beautiful yarns. I left with two different alpaca yarns - one an alpaca and silk blend and one a pure baby alpaca. So, very, very soft. I also delved into Noro Kureyon. Beautiful. And the needles! A pair of #9 Lantern Moon rosewoods. Oh, and a pair of bamboo #3 with which to practice wee stitches. Oh, to be wealthy and have nothing but time and money with which to play!

We were amused by a woman shopping at the yarn store. She was certainly a beginner as she was signing up for the beginner’s class - at over $100. She had a set of bamboo needles and a hank of some really expensive wool. The sales girl was complimenting my choice of Lantern Moon needles (at six times the price of the bamboo ones) and the other shopper said, “Oh! Are those the best? Should I get those?” To the shopkeeper’s credit she talked the woman down. Next came the Noro Kureyon. We were discussing how vivid and rich, yet still very organic are the colors. “Oh dear, is that better than what I’m buying? Where did you find that? I want some!” Again, the shopkeeper talked her down. Maybe knit a few rows and see if it obsessively grabs you before dropping huge chunks of change of cash on a new hobby? Especially when you’re there, and thus setting an example, with your 17 year old daughter.

I have a doctor’s appointment this afternoon as my resting heart rate jumps from a nice calm 50 beats per minute to over 100 for no apparent reason. It calms itself back down after 5 to 10 minutes. I started some new medications a few weeks ago and I’m chalking it up to that. However, I made an appointment just to double check. David asked if he should come to appointment. I told him he didn’t need to and that I would call him on my way home to report on my appointment. Unless they admit me at which point I would also call, but it would be to ask him to bring some pink jammies and the cat. He wasn’t amused. Apparently, my witty banter skills are waning.
